Changes Scope in RAM Requirements:
With the help of official channels, Google has shared that it has altered the RAM requirements of devices operating with the use of Google TV and Android TV. The operating system developed for the android ecosystem primarily used in cheap smart TVs and streaming players has now lowered requirements from 1.5 GB to 1 which means more devices can run the applications as the technology gets cheaper. The strategy is developed in the hope it raises idle devices performance without needing to consume a lot of memory and resources. For a device to run android with 1 GB of memory it still has the ability to run 1080p video output while for a device that has 4K capability does require 1.5 GB of memory.
As for the Google Version of the Android TV OS which aims to be a more refined version available on more premium devices their minimum requirements have increased to 2GB which is an increase from 1.5, Accounting for the greater midrange devices people are purchasing all the necessary parts that allow them to perform better than their predecessors.
For instance, the 4K Google TV Streamer released by Google itself is currently limited to 4GB of RAM. While these changes may not significantly impact performance metrics, they do indicate that Google is focusing on different changes in order to better user experience around memory restrictions.
This development comes after speculation that Google may consider skipping Android TV 14 on smart televisions and instead opting for the release of Android TV 16 in 2026.
