iPad Mini (2024) Review: Portable, Powerful, and Compact – The Perfect Device for Those on the Move

Apple has made a huge statement with recently launched products that follow ‘larger is better’ such as the 13 inch iPad Air, iPhone 16 Pro Max or even the larger MacBook Pro. However, the iPad Mini (2024) challenges this view and makes for a pleasant change. Yes, Apple does appear to have this obsession with larger screens, however, this small mobile device proves that no, not everything depends on size. Having used it for about a week now, it is safe to make the conclusion that the iPad Mini is quite literally a blessing for anyone looking for a device that is portable, multi-purpose, and affordable at the same time.

A Familiar Yet Refined Design

The iPad Mini (2024) comes in Blue and Purple and has given up the lightning port to ditch the USB-C. The upgrades done perfectly align with the brand’s philosophy of seamless integration as it decreases the need for several chargers. Although there are changes that the Mini Model (2024) has incorporated, one thing that is clearly constant is the brand’s signature compact design. Furthermore, the cellular model now has adopted an eSIM model hence saying goodbye to the physical SIM slot.

Nonetheless, considering that other new iPads have the front cameras located on the landscape edge, this may be construed as a minor inconvenience. What is so remarkable about the device is how light it is—it can be held in one hand with relative ease and portability. It seamlessly sits in between a cellphone and a bigger style tablet which is perfect for people who think large screen devices are too bulky.

Performance: Powered by the A17 Pro Chipset

Now, iPad Mini (2024) is equipped with A17 Pro chipset which was the same that powered iPhone 15 Pro series a year ago. Even though it doesn’t feature any of the M series chips that Apple developed, this decision is helpful in preserving thermal dynamics and cost. As for the chipset, it is powerful enough as it can perform everyday functions, work on creation processes and run heavier applications including DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro without breaking a sweat.

Everyday Usability

Creative Tasks

The iPad Mini showcases its benefits in video and photo editing. Basic video editing was simple as well as intermediate video tasks. Da Vinci Resolve seemed to perform well throughout my attempt. When it came to editing photos, darker or lighter images weren’t a problem. Apple Pencil Pro support and a bigger screen do assist greatly. The work feels extremely comfortable to perform with the styli. It’s a great tool for creators who require precision editing.

Multitasking

Using the iPad on the go is smooth sailing. For example, if I need to research while preparing my notes, I can do that easily without any problem. Though the interface is very user-friendly while the screen is smaller than other iPads, it’s still easy to use at different angles.

Gaming and Content Consumption

Thanks to the A17 Pro chipset and small form factor, the iPad Mini is a good gaming handheld. Titles like Asphalt and BGMI work well on it. However, the device will feel warm around the edges after being used for extended periods. The 8.3 inch screen is comfortable for watching videos with decent color vibrancy. Although the 60hz IPS LCD is certainly lacking brightness compared to OLED screens, it’ll do its job for indoor use.

Portability and Battery Life

The functioning time of the battery isn’t the worst as it survives for approximately two days with basic use or around seven to eight hours when performing heavy tasks. Streaming video and playing games are the fastest ways to drain battery as for example, watching Netflix for forty minutes will consume ten percent of the power. But on a good note, its standby battery life is far better than expected leading to it being a useful device when traveling.

Is it Worth Getting the iPad Mini (2024 Edition)?

For users who want a device that is both portable and functional, this one is great — iPad Mini (2024). It has a pretty cool form factor, decent specs and the capability of using the Apple Pencil Pro so it can be useful for students, businesses or just casual users. Also, the best thing about it is that it is one of the cheapest devices made by Apple that has the ability to undertake creative and productivity tasks.

There is no doubt that there are customers who will say that bigger is better, but the iPad Mini might be able to change their perspective.
