Unihertz Tank 3 Pro Review

The Unihertz Tank 3 Pro is a rugged mobile ahead of its time which features a built-in projector along with a large battery. This is an exhaustive review:

Build and Design

The Tank 3 Pro is rightfully named with a form factor of a tank. Its thick and bulky build provides military grade strength. Its water, dust and shock proof attributes allow it to take full on abuse which is perfect for outdoor and stressful environments. But the fact that it weighs 696g and its dimensions are the largest of any smartphone design wise may be off putting for some who require bulky phones.

Display

The phone has a large 6.79-inch screen and 2460 x 1080 pixels resolution. The 120 Hz rate provides smooth fluid images, with the DLP projector embedded in the phone adding a different layer. It is just about bright enough for casual uses by projecting approximately 100 lumens but its practicality is however questionable in bright environments.

Performance

The Tank 3 Pro can be used for basic tasks and moderate gaming, thanks to the ARM Mali-G610 MP6 GPU and an unspecified processor, but will not satisfy very demanding users for who it may be less than ideal for heavy applications.

Battery Life

A clear advantage of the Tank 3 Pro is its impressive and highly unusual 23800 mAh battery. This means it can be used for days without needing to charge it, which is excellent for when camping or where you do not have many opportunities to recharge. While fast charging via USB-C Power Delivery is a possibility, with such a large battery it is clear that even fast charging will still take a long time.

Camera

The camera architecture is even more powerful with the 200 MP primary sensor along with two other 64 MP and 50 MP secondary sensors for superb and colorful images. Selfies and video calls can be well appreciated with the 50 MP front camera. The hardware seems robust; however, the software optimization may be detrimental to the final image, particularly in conditions of low illumination.

Features

Additionally, the waterproof and dustproof features of the Tank 3 Pro’s external casing do fit in quite well with the rest of this rugged tablet storage. The digital projector also helps and lets users project content to a bigger screen. Further, users will also appreciate the ease and modernity of Android 13.

Pros

  • Very large battery allowing for long operation
  • Rugged construction, water resistant
  • Built-in projector
  • Good cameras
  • Refresh rate is 120 Hz

Cons

  • Oversize and heavy
  • Too expensive for some features
  • Scarce information on processor
  • Due to big battery, full recharge may take a long time

Verdict

Again, for its owner, the Unihertz Tank 3 Pro is a very specific device with extreme sturdiness features because of construction, long battery life, and a unique onboard projector.

Although it does really well in these aspects, its weight, bulk and pricing might not sit well with the average consumer. However, if you are an explorer or someone where the phone’s ruggedness predominates over its aesthetics, this phone may be perfect.
