With the update version 18.2, Apple has enabled setting default apps for messaging and calls, and other changes too. Here’s how to change your app settings now.
Apple has continuously modified its operating systems to adhere to the regulations set forth by the Digital Markets Act of the European Union. Now, with the release of 18.2 version of the software, users from other countries now get the capability to set a default application for email, messaging, calling, browsing the web, managing passwords, and even keyboards. It is worth noting that these updates were also made available for Ipad users using IpadOS 18.2, except payment applications that use NFC technology, which is unique to the iPhone.
The limitations to change default apps were previously restricted to email and browser apps, which was introduced in the 14th version of the software. With the new update, the system is able to simplify and expand the existing defualt app settings.
Change Default Applications on Iphone
Make sure your version is greater than 18.2 or check for updates. You can then do the following:
- Open Settings: On your iPhone and Ipad, look for the settings app.
- Choose categories such as email and calling to view the available applications for that functionality.
It is possible there are no applications that can be listed, so search the App Store for alternative compatible options. For instance, if a call-filtering application is installed then the phone can screen calls for potential scams.
Compatible Apps With Primary Settings.
If an application does not show in a particular category, it indicates that there is no compatible app currently installed . Once you download any of the supported applications from the App Store, it will automatically add itself under available options. Hence, If you would like to replace Safari with Chrome for browsing or Apple Mail with Gmail, you are free to do so.
If Chrome is set as default browser, then all other apps will open in Chrome. Chrome will also open the App Store if you need to search for a specific application.
With regards to certain categories, passwords and keyboards for instance, multiple applications can be turned on at the same time which adds versatility. Keyboards can be arranged in an order that suits your preferences or multiple password managers can be used to, store and auto-fill credentials.
