$2,100 Mechanical Keyboard Inspired by NYC Skyscrapers With 800 Micro-Holes

$2,100 Mechanical Keyboard

Don’t be naive, you aren’t getting a numpad for this amount either.

You can spend your money on a mid ranged desktop computer or you can get your hand on one of the most extravagant keyboard kits in the market, because for $2,100, the Icebreaker keyboard is not practical at all, it is solely for fashion and is built for the purpose of making one out of the design.

A Homage to the Flatiron Building in Newyork City

The keyboard was created by Serene Industries which focuses on building extravagant models and as the Flatiron Building in New York City always tries to capture attention with the prism shape of it and standing tall since 1902 the building served as the inspiration for the keyboard to be designed in a wedge profile. The founder of the company in which the keyboard was made claimed that the purpose of the Icebreaker was to resemble the building by having sharp angles and edges.

In previous discussions with Design Milk, Agarkov had made clear what the intention was with the design. He said, “When viewed from the correct viewpoint, it appears about as flat as a piece of paper.”

Aluminum Craftsmanship and Unique Design

The Icebreaker’s chassis comprises a single unified piece of aluminum alloy 6061 and is fully precision machined. With the dimensions of 17.7 x 1.7 x 0.9 inches, it is rather massive but definitely not the most massive in weight. The bulk of the higher class keyboards use aluminum for the combination of style but durability it adds to the keyboard, but the Icebreaker goes farther and introduces a all in one tunneled design without the typical top and bottom piece iteration.

Another prominent part of the keyboard is its keycaps that come for an exorbitant price of $415. These keycaps are extensively made with aluminum including more than 800 micro perforations that act as legends for the LED lights. The cost of each hole which is approximately 400 microns in which can easily add a synthetic design for the kits unreasonable price. Even though the porous nature can deteriorate the quality dust and debris buildup can be an issue.

Everyone has their own regard when it comes to typing on their keyboards.

Load mechanical switches and low-profile keycaps are not very popular when it comes to gaming, so wearing it will affect the typing experience significantly. The lower profile does have a downside as they do tend to feel different than their gisp types and that’s not to mention the fact that they come with silicone dampeners which are present at the bottom and also work as anti slip support. The device accommodates a 4000 mAh battery and has ‘1/4-20’ mounting threads to support other peripheral attachments or a keyboard installed on the monitor arms. What is this? It is a widely known fact that this keyboard has full height mechanical switches, isn’t it? The sensors also have a number of customization features including a programmable rotary dial and mapper that are compatible with the Via twin. The default option is a USB-C connection but Hall effect switches combined with Bluetooth capability can increase the cost to US $2100. While the $2100 price tag might seem high, there’s a catch; this keyboard only allows one device to be connected to it which is quite unexpected given its cost.

In Practicality Meets Luxury

The Icebreaker illustrates the unique realm of expensive mechanical keyboards, where artistry and craftsmanship reign supreme. There неe mid-range gears out there but Icebreaker sits comfortably as the most expensive out there. According to Agarkov, one of the greatest challenges was to merge a functional product with such an elaborate design. This and last time we arrived at the firm’s production headquarters where amid the mass production of the keyboard its enormous weight combined with the size played a few tricks for the manufacturers as well.

There is no doubt, the first thing that this keyboard targets are collectors and people who want things to look good even if it means forgoing basic features and practicality like a numpad or include a slew of switches. The Icebreaker is worthy of its place beside other luxurious keyboards like Angry Miao’s AFA Blade Limited Edition by adding into the mix the most over the top price and design in the mechanical keyboard landscape.

If someone is willing to splurge on an abstract piece of art, then the Icebreaker is a treat worth every dollar for the sheer talk it offers, that being said the value is indeed off the charts.
